1.0    T&C’s (Terms & Conditions)

1.1    Terms & Conditions

Please read these terms and conditions carefully before you make a purchase from Free Spirits Saddlery. By making a purchase either on or off-line, you have agreed to and are bound by these terms and conditions. These terms and conditions do not affect your Statutory Rights.

Free Spirits Saddlery makes every effort to give the customer accurate and competitive prices, however due to unforeseen circumstances or low stock we reserve the right to discontinue any item and change any price whenever necessary. All transactions are in UK GBP Pound Sterling Currency. Please use the Currency Converter that uses up to date exchange rates. All prices on Free Spirits Saddlery are not VAT-able at present. We reserve the right to change prices, or become VAT enabled at our discretion.

Most orders are dispatched within 48 working hours, however during busy trading periods or when stock levels are low some delays may occur. You will be notified of any possible delays by email once we have received your order and you should allow up to 28 days for delivery. All orders are subject to availability; we do carry large stocks of the most popular items. Orders taken from overseas may be liable to customs and import duties; these are the responsibility of the customer and we cannot predict this type of charge. We charge no tax or additional handling fees other than quoted S&P. Please contact your local tax office for further information on customs fees. We accept no liability for any governmental controls in the handling and shipping of products in respect of all countries. On receipt of the goods we stipulate that a signature must be obtained. No goods will be left without a signature. It is the customer's responsibility to arrange collection of the goods should they miss the first attempt.

Goods described and pictures of goods displayed on Free Spirits Saddlery may differ slightly from the goods you receive, this may be due to the quality of the photographs or alterations made by suppliers. You will wherever possible be informed of changes made to any of the products available on our website. Where several colours are advertised, we endeavour to supply photographs that represent these colours as accurately as possible; however, photos are only a guide. Colour shades may vary depending upon individual persons’ monitor resolution, lighting, camera/flash settings, and natural variations in the products material/manufacture process.  We are not liable for any variations in the colour. You can return any items that you are not happy with within 7 days of receipt of the goods.

1.2    Returns

If you need to return an item for any reason please do so within 7 days for UK (14 days for International) of receiving the goods. You will need to Contact Us for a returns form (exchange, refund or faulty goods) and returns reference, which we will then e-mail to you. Please complete the form, email it to Free Spirits Saddlery, and then print a copy to send back with the returned item. We cannot accept a return item unless this form is completed and included with the return item. You will be required to arrange and pay for the return, and they should be well packed and clearly labelled enclosing you returns form. We advise customers to use a registered postal service, as we cannot take any responsibility for the loss or damage to goods being returned.

Due to the Health and Safety regulations we are unable to accept return of any item unless it is clean and dry (Health and Safety at Work Act 1974). Refunds will be made once the goods have been received and checked. For exchange items please detail the size or colour of the exchange item you require. You will be charged for the delivery of the exchange item. Refunds will be given (minus the delivery costs) on all returned goods so long as they have not been used or damaged and come back in their original packaging with original labels still attached. Faulty goods will be subject to inspection and if the claim is found genuine a replacement or a refund will be made available. Free Spirits Saddlery reserves the right not to offer any refund if the goods have been used or damaged after you have received the goods. Any custom items made to measure from information/sizes provided by the customer are non returnable. We are happy to help and advise customers, although we cannot be held responsible for the decision made when choosing a size. Free Spirits Saddlery shall have no liability to pay any monies by way of compensation, other than to refund you the amount paid by you, for the goods in question. We reserve the right to amend this returns policy at our own discretion or under advice from Government appointed agencies. This does not affect your Statutory Rights.

1.3    Guarantee

Free Spirits Saddlery will back up any guarantee issued by the manufacturer relating to the product you have bought from us, as long as the goods have been used for their stated purpose. This does not affect your Statutory Rights.

1.4      Legalities

1.4.1    Privacy Policy & Data Protection Act

Free Spirits Saddlery fully complies with the Data Protection Act 1998 and we are registered in the UK to hold customers’ data. We do not disclose any of the customer details to any third parties and only Free Spirits Saddlery will use your email address to notify you of any offers we feel would be of interest to you in the future. You can request to have a copy of the information we hold on file for you at any time. Please submit your request in writing along with a cheque for £10.00 and we will supply this information for you within 40 days. You can also request to have any information we hold for you removed from our database; again, please submit your request for this in writing. 1.4.2    Copy & Design Rights

All content on the website including photographs, text, descriptions, logos and branding is the property of Free Spirits Saddlery, it’s affiliates or suppliers and is protected by UK copyright and database laws. Express written consent is required from Free Spirits Saddlery before you may extract or use any content or parts of the website; it may not be copied, reproduced, duplicated, sold, downloaded or distributed by any means to third parties.

1.4.3    Photographs

All photographs on this site are the property of Free Spirits Saddlery, and may not be copied or reproduced in ANY form. The majority of our horse photography models belong to Free Spirits Stud. Please Contact Us if you wish to purchase any of the photographs/artwork on our website, the right to link to our photographs, or the right to produce artwork based on these photographs. We also offer a photography service for suppliers requiring stock photographs for their catalogues/websites. One of Free Spirits Stud’s models; “Fly Free” is the 2006 current Catalogue Cover model for Stephens Equine Management Ltd, wearing one of their own Walsall made Bridles.

1.4.4     Distance Selling Directive

The main provisions of the Distance Selling Regulations are that:

  • Consumers must be given clear information about the goods or services before buying

  • Goods must be delivered within thirty days unless agreed otherwise

  • Consumers have a cooling off period in which they can withdraw from the contract for any reason

  • The cooling off period begins as soon as the order has been made

  • In the case of goods, it ends seven (7) working days after the day of receipt of the goods

  • Where consumers notify the supplier in writing or another durable medium that they wish to cancel the contract, they must be refunded within 30 days

The Regulations do not apply to:

  • Goods made to the customer's specification i.e. any custom items or special items ordered/purchased out with normal stock

The information does not constitute advice and you should not use the information on the website to make any decisions or take any action. 2.0    S&P (Shipping & Postage)

2.1    Delivery Methods

Free Spirits Saddlery use Royal Mail and Parcelforce for all of our deliveries as we feel they provide a friendly and timely service. As we supply via the Internet and via Mail Order, no collection of purchases from our premises or similar is permitted; all items purchased must be sent via the mail so that proof of posting and delivery is obtained. A signature will be required on delivery for ALL purchases. If you are not present to sign for the goods, the following will happen:

2.1.1    Items Sent by Royal Mail

Royal Mail items will usually arrive by Postman with your usual postal delivery. If you are not in to sign for the order, the postman will drop a delivery card through your Post box. This card will give details of your local Post Depot or Post Office where the goods can be signed for and collected. It will also give you a number to ring where you may be able to arrange another delivery attempt. If not collected within 7 days, the parcel will be returned to Free Spirits Saddlery, and you may be liable for further postal charges incurred in attempting redelivery.

2.1.2    Items Sent by Parcelforce

Parcelforce items will usually arrive by delivery van during the day. If you are not in to sign for the order, the driver will drop a ‘Delivery Attempted Slip’ through your door. The slip will give details of the main Parcelforce depot in your area where the goods can be signed for and collected. It will also give you a number to ring should you wish to arrange another delivery date, or arrange for the goods to be dropped at your local post office, where you could sign for and pick up the goods at your convenience. This service is free of charge and gives you the best chance of receiving the goods without any further costs. If not contacted within 2 days, the parcel will be returned to Free Spirits Saddlery, and you may be liable for further postal charges incurred in attempting redelivery.

2.2    Delivery Costs & Times - UK

We have no collections on a Saturday or Sunday. Scottish Highlands & Islands and International Buyers please email for a quote before completing checkout. Standard & Small Parcels UK 1-4 working days for orders processed & paid Monday to Friday no later than 12.00pm. Small Parcels UK applies to small item purchases under £30 in vlaue, and excludes large/heavy items over 1.5 kg when parcelled such as rugs, clippers, saddles, sheepskin saddlecloths, feed supplements etc. These are both mainland UK only, and exclude the Highlands and Islands.

  • Standard Parcels UK - £6.00

  • Small Parcels UK - £4.00

We can also offer Next Day weekday delivery on certain stock items. Please contact us first to check availability before selecting this option. This is a 24 hour service for orders processed & paid Monday to Thursday no later than 12.00pm. We can offer a Next Day Saturday service for an additional fee by prior arrangement.

  • Next Day UK - £10.00

2.3    Delivery Costs & Times - International

For International customers, please contact us for a shipping quote as this is calculated based on your country and weight of the parcelled purchases – we offer competitive rates and have a range of services available:

  • International Signed For (Parcelled purchases under 2kg) 10 - 25 working days. Available worldwide

  • Airsure (Parcelled purchases under 2kg) 5 - 10 working days. Available to the US and EU

  • International Standard 3 - 8 working days. Available worldwide

  • Euro 48 2 - 4 working days. Available to Europe

2.4    Customs

Goods ordered for delivery outside the UK may be subject to import duties and taxes; these will be levied once the parcel reaches its destination country. Any charges for customs must be paid by the buyer; we have no control over these and do not know what they may be as customs policies vary from country to country. Contact your local customs officer for full details and regulations. We accept no liability for any governmental controls in the handling and shipping of products in respect of all countries.


3.0    Custom Items/Search Service

Here at Free Spirits Saddlery we specialise in sourcing equestrian items for you that are not readily available or that are difficult to find e.g. unusual colours/designs, discontinued lines. We can even source items which may seem like they do not exist! If there is anything at all equestrian that you are looking for, please Contact Us and our dedicated search team will try and source it for you. We have a huge catalogue of suppliers that we can order items from, so we will let you know if we can supply the item in question to you ourselves. If we cannot supply the item ourselves, we can usually source another company who can supply it for you. There is a small fee for this service, so please Contact Us first for further information.

Our other specialist service is customised equestrian items. We can supply most bridles in custom sizes, colours and designs; we are well aware that not all horse’s heads fit into standard sized bridles, and quite often there can be variations in the size charts between different equestrian brands. We have a Custom Items category which offers a small selection of custom items we can supply, some from stock. If there is a specific size, design, colour of type of item that you are looking to purchase, then please Contact Us with details of what you are looking for, and we will respond by email with any options and prices available for you. Some custom items such as the Stephens sheepskin products and Otto Schumacher bridles may take up to 4-6 weeks to arrive.

All items ordered specially such as the above; i.e. those sourced outside our usual stock, those with personalisation or custom made are non-returnable/refundable. Cancellation must be made within 48 hours of placing the order and this must be done by e-mail. Please be advised that custom items and those sourced outside usual stock do not fall under the DSR, so you do not have the 7 day ‘cooling off’ period.


4.0    Contact Us

If you need to Contact Us for any reason, please do so by email; we have a dedicated email team who will endeavour to answer your query within 48 hours. Contacting us by email ensures that you will get the fastest response time we can offer to your query, as we usually have an allocated member of the team who will be ‘on call’ via VPN access out with office hours to respond to your emails. Contacting us by email also allows for an electronic record for each ‘conversation’ to be held on file, which minimises any confusion or discrepancies for ongoing conversations. Email is the most effective and efficient way for Free Spirits Saddlery to handle your query due to the virtual and technological nature of eCommerce.

5.0    About Us

Free Spirits Saddlery is based in Scotland UK, and started trading in 2003 as a small business supplying comfort bridles to the equestrian consumer market. Demand for our products soon increased and we have become one of the leading suppliers of comfort and custom bridles for the UK and International markets.

Our aim is to provide “the Ultimate in Luxury and Comfort for Your Horse”, and we hope to achieve this by supplying top quality established brands, along with sourcing new brands and innovative products plus fashion items for your four legged friend(s). We are constantly searching worldwide for reliable suppliers and fantastic products to populate this site. If there is anything equestrian that you have come across that you would like to see on our site, please Contact Us with details. Our current top 3 selling products are comfort bridles, crystal designer bridles, and sheepskin pads, and these have remained steady favourites over the past 2 years.

We have very strong relationship with suppliers. Any items not found on our website can usually be ordered from our suppliers within 2 working days. If our suppliers have any items on special offers or bulk savings, then we are usually the first to find out, which means that we can then pass these savings onto our buyers. As a testimony to our strong links with suppliers, Stephens Equine Management Ltd specifically requested a photograph of one of Free Spirits Stud’s horsey models wearing a Stephens Walsall Bridle to grace the cover of their new 2006 Catalogue.

We also have our own Free Spirits Saddlery range of bridlework, branded FSS. This incorporates a range of bridles, fancy crystal browbands and accessories formed around the ethos of ‘fashionable comfort’. Bridles all have comfort padded headpieces and nosebands, coming in a large variety of leather colours included Black, Choco, Burgundy, Red Havana, Newmarket Tan and London Tan, with fancy padding colours such as Hot Pink, Aqua Blue, Plum Purple and Red. These are limited availability as only about 20 are made in each batch to allow the buyer something unique for their horse. We are currently designing the new range at present, which we hope should be ready for launch in August 2006.

We only stock products that we would be happy to use on our own horses; in fact, all of Free Spirits Stud’s horses are clothed and tacked by the brands we sell on this website. We try to provide our own photographs of all items for sale, to try to give the buyer a comprehensive range of images to assess which products and colours are most suitable. Where several colours are advertised, we endeavour to supply photographs that represent these colours as accurately as possible; however, these photos are only intended as a guide.

6.2    Making a Purchase

Once you have selected an item you would like to buy, simply click on the specific size or colour required if applicable, and select the quantity you would like. Once you have done this click on the' add to basket' button and that item will be added to your shopping basket. You can add to or amend the contents of your basket at any time by clicking on the shopping basket button in the top right of the screen. Once you have finished shopping and would like to pay for the selected items displayed in your basket, click on the 'proceed to checkout' button.

6.3    Payments

6.3.1    On-Line Card Payments

Once you have clicked on the 'checkout' button you will be taken through to the payments page, where you will be asked to enter your delivery details and e-mail address. This e-mail address will be the one we will contact you on to inform you of any problems and the status of your order. It also helps with security and helps to prevent fraud. The checkout screen will give you a list of the delivery options and the prices. You must choose one of these options and the delivery charge will be added to your total bill. Then tick the box to say you have read and agreed to Free Spirits Saddlery’s terms and conditions and click 'submit'. You will be taken to our secure payment provider; FastHosts. You will be asked for your credit card details and billing address if different from the one shown. You will be shown the full amount you will be charged then click on proceed. You will receive notification by e-mail that your payment has been accepted. This is all done on a secure site that protects your information by encrypting the data.

6.3.2    Other Payment Methods

We also accept payments sent in the post or from your Bank. Click to go direct to our Mail Order Form, which you can save to your own computer to fill in and print off, or you can print it off and fill in by hand. You can then post your order, along with correct payment, to the following address:

We accept payment in the form of Cheques, Bankers Draft, International Money Order, Postal Orders and Cash payable to “Free Spirits Saddlery”, but this must be in UK GBP Pound Sterling currency only – we cannot accept payment in ANY Foreign Currency. Payments in Postal Orders and Cash should be sent by Special Delivery or similar registered service to ensure your payment is insured and trackable. We are not liable for any payment delayed or missing in the post. Please remember that Cheques have to be cleared in our account before we can post the order. This typically takes 3-5 working days.

To make payment from your Bank by Bank Transfer or BACS, please Contact Us for the relevant details and a Bank Payment Reference. Bank payments from UK Banks usually take 2-3 working days to clear in our account; International payments usually take 1-2 weeks. Orders will be posted only once full payment is cleared in our account, and any fees incurred have been settled. The following rules apply to payments made from your Bank to our Bank Account:

  1. Payments to be made in UK GBP Pound Sterling currency only.

  2. Please Contact Us in advance to let us know if you intend to pay via BACS or Bank Transfer so we can look out for it entering our account.

  3. Make sure you enter the Bank Payment Reference and your Full Name into the tag line/description of your payment so that we know who it is from.

  4. ALL charges at BOTH ends are to be paid by the BUYER. Any charges incurred at our end will be invoiced to the buyer, and we will not despatch your item till this is paid in full

  5. We are not liable for payments made to the wrong account (i.e. if the incorrect details are used)

Please note that we cannot hold any stock items for you until payment is received in full; this applies especially to Sale Items and Specials/One-Offs, which are sold on a “first come, first paid, first served” basis. Please Contact Us if there is an item that you specifically wish to reserve, and we may be able to come to some arrangement with you.

6.4    Confirmation

Once an order has been placed we will check availability and email the customer back confirming the order has been accepted. A contract between you and Free Spirits Saddlery will only take place once the order has been accepted and processed, at which point your credit/debit card will be charged. You will be notified within 48 working hours of any possible delays or stock shortage so you can decide whether to proceed with the order or cancel it. If we do not receive any notification of a change to the order within 48 working hours of our e-mail being sent to you, the order will be processed as normal.
